Sorry but you are missing the obvious and you are not "rev locked" at all.

Just update the hosting server to mysql 8.

If anything is making you "rev locked" it is using eol server software

I think perhaps you are missing the obvious....That would be simple except you do not control the revision of MySQL at most shared hosting companies and most if not all shared hosting companies are still on MySQL 5 and are likely to be there for quite some time.
